This cross between Italian bees selected in Northern Europe and Carniolan honey bees inseminated in Poland combines the best characteristics for beekeeping in a Boreal climate (long, cold winters and a short but intense harvest season). The prolificacy of the Italian honey bee is balanced by the growth dynamics of the Carniolan honey bee, which develops explosively only when external conditions allow. The Carniolan honey bee's propensity for swarming is mitigated by the Italian honey bee's propensity for harvesting. These genetically closely related subspecies maintain all their docility traits.
